Negotiating Return Children’s Community Mural

The 2011 Children’s Community Mural in Gdansk, Poland was commissioned by Laznia Centre for Contemporary Art and financed by The British Council and Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland and the City of Gdansk as part of the Brit-Cult Festival and was contracted for educational purposes only and not for commercial exploitation. The mural was painted by Stik in collaboration with children from the local area. In 2014 the mural was removed from its original location by a third party without the knowledge of Stik or Laznia and is now in the hands of a fourth party. Stik and Laznia are attempting to negotiate with the fourth party for the return of the mural to its original location. The Polish Authorities have been informed of the situation and are in the early stages of an investigation.

The world's remotest street art | August 2014.

Two North Sea wind turbines painted by UK street artist Stik to highlight importance of renewable energy.

UK Street artist Stik ventured to the remote island of Utsira to paint artworks on the twin wind turbines that provide power to the entire population of the island. The two giant stick figures represent all 200 inhabitiants of the island who use the clean energy provided these two turbines.

Utsira, an independent Norwegan municipality 15km from the nearest land and is best known for it's place in Radio 4's Shipping Forecast and red-list endangered bird species the Corn Crake. Residents of the island lead traditional lives but are using street art as a modern means of communication to the world.

'I want to highlight the importance of renewable energy, Utsira is effectively living off-grid which is inspiring to the rest of us.' says Stik

This was part of the event Utsirart which involved five international street artists, curated by Tor-Stolle Moen and facilitated by islander Tove Grimsby. The island hosts regular cultural events and is an hour's ferry trip from Haugersun which has an international airport. They welcome day trippers and have a very good restaurant and pub.
